A slip on a residential, commercial or rural property can be stressful. It may affect access, damage retaining walls or services, threaten buildings and leave the property owner unsure where to begin.

The first questions are often: Is the property safe? What will it take to repair? Will insurance cover the damage? How much is the repair likely to cost?

CIVILCO can help you work through the process, whether the damage is covered by insurance or you are funding the repair privately. We provide practical construction input from the outset and can take the project from initial repair options through engineering, consenting, construction and final sign-off.

If you need help with an Auckland slip repair, CIVILCO can establish the likely repair options, indicative costs and practical next steps.

Auckland Slip Repair Options and Estimated Costs

Before committing to a full design, it is helpful to understand the likely repair methodologies and their potential costs.

Following an initial site assessment, CIVILCO can prepare a construction repair estimate and outline a range of practical repair options. Depending on the site, these may include retaining structures, palisade or piled walls, ground stabilisation, earthworks, drainage improvements, erosion protection or a combination of solutions.

This early construction input helps the property owner understand:

  • The likely scope of the repair

  • Suitable construction methodologies

  • The indicative cost of each option

  • The practical constraints and risks associated with the site

  • Whether the proposed solution is likely to align with the available budget or insurance position

The appropriate repair will depend on the cause and extent of the slip, ground conditions, access, nearby structures and services, council requirements and the advice of the project engineers.

Coordinating the right engineering team

Slip repairs commonly require input from several specialists. This may include a geotechnical engineer, structural engineer, surveyor, civil engineer, planner or other consultants, depending on the site and the proposed works.

If you do not already have a consultant team, CIVILCO can

recommend appropriately qualified professionals and help coordinate their involvement. We can work with your existing engineers or assist in assembling the right team for the project. Our role is to bring construction knowledge into the design process early so the proposed solution is practical to build and informed by real site conditions and likely construction costs.

Early Contractor Involvement

Under an Early Contractor Involvement agreement, commonly referred to as ECI, CIVILCO works alongside the client and design team before construction begins.

During this stage, we can assist with:

  • Reviewing proposed repair methodologies

  • Providing buildability advice

  • Comparing the likely costs of different solutions

  • Identifying access, temporary works and construction constraints

  • Helping manage the design programme and consultant inputs

  • Providing updated estimates as the design develops

  • Identifying opportunities to reduce unnecessary cost without compromising the required engineering outcome

This helps ensure the design is economically optimised, buildable and aligned as closely as possible with the client’s budget. It can also reduce the risk of completing an expensive design only to discover that the resulting construction cost is unaffordable.

Assistance with insurance claims and settlement discussions

Where the slip may be covered by insurance, CIVILCO can provide construction information to support the client’s discussions with their insurer and professional advisers.

Under an ECI agreement, this may include developing repair methodologies, preparing construction estimates, responding to technical queries, reviewing the proposed scope of repair and helping establish a realistic construction allowance for the works.

If the client is considering a cash settlement, we can assist by providing the construction detail and cost information needed to help the client and their advisers assess whether the proposed settlement reflects the likely repair scope.

Insurance cover and settlement decisions remain subject to the policy terms and the insurer’s assessment. CIVILCO does not determine cover or act as an insurance adviser, but we can provide the practical construction expertise needed to help the client understand the repair and its likely cost.

Consents, construction and final sign-off

Once the preferred repair methodology has been selected and the design completed, CIVILCO can manage the physical works on site.

Our slip repair services can include:

  • enabling works and site access

  • erosion and sediment controls

  • earthworks and removal of slipped material

  • retaining walls, piling and ground stabilisation

  • subsoil and stormwater drainage

  • reinstatement of affected ground, accessways and landscaping areas

  • coordination of inspections and engineering documentation

Where required, we can also assist with building consent and resource consent applications, coordinate inspections during construction and support the Code Compliance Certificate process.

On completion, CIVILCO can provide the applicable contractor producer statement for the work we have completed, together with supporting construction records required for project close-out. Engineering producer statements and other specialist certifications are provided by the relevant project consultants.

One team from initial options through to completed repair

Slip repairs can involve insurers, engineers, council requirements, budgets and complex construction decisions. Having a contractor involved early provides continuity between what is designed, what it is expected to cost and what can practically be built.

CIVILCO can support you through the complete process:

  1. Initial site review

  2. Repair methodologies and construction estimates

  3. Engineering team recommendations and coordination

  4. ECI, design management and cost optimisation

  5. Construction information to support insurer or settlement discussions

  6. Building and resource consent assistance where required

  7. Construction of the repair works

  8. Producer statement and project close-out documentation
